How to Erase All Data from Android Phone and Tablet

Before you let go of your old cell phones, whether you are recycling them or just giving them to a friend, it is important that you protect yourself by first erasing all of your personal data. That includes your contacts, text messages, emails, call log, pictures, and every app you have downloaded.

Gizmogul provides a Secure Data Removal service for all of its customers, but many prefer to remove their data beforehand. If you would like to erase all of your data and reset your phone to its factory settings before sending it, the Android platform makes the process very simple. Just follow these easy steps:

Note: The exact wording may vary depending on your device, but it should be similar.

To erase the micro SD card:

1) From the main menu, go to Settings.
2) Scroll down and select Storage.
3) Under the SD Card heading, click on Format SD Card and confirm your decision.
4) From the same Storage menu, choose Format Internal (or USBStorage. Not all phones offer this option.
5) Go back to the Settings menu and choose Privacy.
6) If necessary, uncheck the boxes labeled Back Up My Data and Automatic Restore.
7) Click on Factory Data Reset. On some phones, this option may be listed in the Storage menu.

Once this process is complete, your Android phone will be reset to a clean slate, and you can feel comfortable knowing none of your data can be recovered from your device.
